Turmeric Paste quick and easy

CURCUMIN AND WHY BLACK PEPPER BOOSTS TURMERIC BLOOD LEVELS.
Curcumin is the active ingredient (the part of the plant that has an ‘effect’) in turmeric and responsible for its golden colour, but unfortunately it is not readily absorbed by the body. It’s also been the subject of many scientific tests as it is proving to be an incredibly powerful anti-inflammatory aid. Once ingested however, most of the Curcumin gets quickly metabolised before it can get absorbed. It’s the black pepper (actually, the heat in black pepper) that helps make Curcumin more bio-available (meaning how easily the body can use it as a nutritional source), as it temporarily slows the liver from removing it from the blood. And the good news is that it doesn’t take much. Even just a little pinch of black pepper can significantly boost levels.
It’s very versatile once made, I add it to coconut milk for a golden latte, or to stir-fry’s to get the added benefit of the ready made bio-available turmeric. Use your imagination, I’d love to hear how you use it…
TURMERIC PASTE
1/2 cup turmeric powder (125 mls) – Use organic powder if you can.
1 cup water (250 mls) or a bit more to get desired paste consistency
1/2 -1 teaspoon ground black pepper, adjust to your own liking.
1/4 cup (70 ml) un-refined Coconut oil
For a delicious golden latte/turmeric latte..
If you're looking for a caffeine free alternative, this could just be what you need.
Add 1 tsp per cup of desired milk. We love it with coconut milk or almond/coconut milk.
Heat gently on stove (or if you have a coffee machine, you can warm it up with the steamer - just make sure you wipe the jet clean straight away to avoid staining).
Sprinkle a little cinnamon over the top if you like and you can always add a little honey too.
The added benefit is that it's caffeine free..
Fun Fact..
When eaten with fat (virgin olive or coconut oil or meat drippings) as is done in India, curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system thereby partially bypassing the liver. It actually enhances the bio-availability of curcumin another seven to eight-fold. How cool is that?!
